We manufacture
many different types of prepared culture media plates that can be
used for bacterial identification and isolation by veterinarians
and technicians. Single (mono) chamber plates with one media type
to multi-chamber quad plates with four media types are designed
to be species specific and selective for both gram-negative and
gram-positive organisms.
For
example, our Mastitis Quad Plate offers a combination of four different
media types for overnight identification of mastitis pathogens.
These plates contain Heart Infusion Blood Agar (BAP), TKT/FC, MacConkey,
and Baird-Parker or KLMB media.
After a sample
is applied to the plate and incubated, combinations of no growth
or positive growth characteristics on the various media types allow
for the differential identification of the bacteria. This process
is fast, inexpensive and provides meaningful results. This allows
"identification before medication", to help assure the
appropriate use and proper selection of antibiotics.
A list of our
Multiple Chamber Plates and a rational for use is presented below.
Charts of organisms and their growth characteristics on selective
media are also available to all our customers. We have a page showing
positive results when Staph aureus was plated on various
Wolff Products Quad Plates. Click
here to see these remarkable results and for tips on sample
collecting.
Basic
Tri-Plate: BAP, CNA, MacConkey
An
all purpose plate. BAP for all organisms. CNA for gram-positive
organisms. MacConkey for gram-negative organisms.
Mastitis
Quad Plates: BAP, TKT/FC, MacConkey, Baird-Parker
or KLMB
For
the culture of milk using an individual quarter, cow or mixed sample.
BAP for all organisms and hemolysis. TKT/FC for the growth, separation
and identification of streptococci. MacConkey for growth,
separation, and identification of gram-negative bacteria. Baird-Parker
or KLMB (depending on client preference) promotes growth and separation
of staphylococci while inhibiting other organisms.
General
Quad Plate: BAP, CNA, MacConkey, EMB
A
general purpose plate for the initial culturing and identification
of gram-positive and gram-negative organisms. BAP for growth of
all organisms and determining hemolysis. CNA for the separation
of gram-positives. MacConkey and EMB for the separation of gram-negatives.
Standard
Quad Plate: BAP, Brilliant Green, MacConkey, CNA
A
general purpose plate for the initial culturing and identification
of gram- positive and gram-negative organisms. BAP for growth of
all organisms and determining hemolysis. CNA for the separation
of gram-positives. MacConkey and Brilliant Green for the separation
of gram-negatives.
Urine
Quad Plate: BAP, CLED, CNA, MacConkey
A
plate designed for the growth, quantification and identification
of urinary tract infections. CLED media is a media designed for
the growth and enumeration of organisms in urine. BAP is for detection
of hemolysis. CNA promotes gram-positives at the expense of gram-negatives.
MacConkey supports growth of gram-negatives with identification.
Staph.
Quad Plate: KLMB, Baird Parker, Purple, Mannitol
Salt
A
plate to identify staphylococci. Designed after preliminary
identification of staph where further separation for identification
is needed.
Gram-Negative
Tri-Plate: BAP, Brilliant Green, MacConkey
A
plate for the basic separation and identification of gram-negative
organisms. BAP for all organisms. MacConkey and Brilliant Green
for a initial separation of gram-negatives.
Gram-Negative
Quad Plate: BAP, Brilliant Green, MacConkey, EMB
A
plate designed to further identify gram-negative organisms. Can
be used after preliminary separation of gram-negatives for further
identification.
We
also have a basic Bac-T-Kit containing sterile
swabs, transport media, enrichment broth,a tri plate (BAP, CNA and
MacConkey), distribution fluid, and a Mueller-Hinton Blood agar
plate which can be used with sensitivity disks (ordered separately).
In
addition, we have many other medias, agars and fluids filled into
mono-plates and tubes. Please see our price list (below) for a complete
list of these products.
